About this blog

Hello, I’m Mark Warner. At the start of 2021, my family and I embarked on a journey to try and reduce our single-use plastic consumption.

Some of the experiments in changing purchase behaviour were successful, others were not. Whilst it’s possible to save money with some plastic saving changes, others will end up costing you more. Analysis of the costs and benefits are also presented.

Many changes we’ve made and documented are not perfect solutions from an environmental perspective but they are a step in the right direction. It’s important to remember that there are benefits in lots of people making small changes, rather than a few doing everything perfectly. Focusing excessively on getting everything perfect can stand in the way of actively making changes.

This blog focuses on:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Household product alternatives
  • Reusable products
  • Recipies

So come with me and let’s get started making simple, effective and valuable changes to how we shop and live our lives. If you’re not sure where to start, then start where we did. Reduce the mass of plastic milk bottles that went into the recycling every week. This alone is saving us over 7.5kg of plastic waste per year
